  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Just thought I would tell you that you are awesome. That's the first random thought that popped in my head while reading your post. Have fun with the new phone! :-)

Hello lovely Claire! I still love your posts, even if they are less frequent.I hope your weekend has now started in earnest. I'm on school holidays and, after a very difficult year, am looking forward to weeks and weeks of nothing! Wishing you and your family a very happy Christmas and a fabulous 2011! xxx

Hi! Here's a Christmas mix I've been enjoying lately. <3

Ladies! Hello and thank you for the comments (and the Christmas mix, Kristen!). I wish I could give you all a hug. Here's to great 2011 for all! xox

Hey Claire! Blue Girl here. Long time reader and fan of yours. :)

Didn't mind your big chunk of nothing text at all. Actually enjoyed it! Hope you ended up having a great weekend.

I'm finally in Columbus permanently! Yay! Maybe we can get together for some eggnog between Christmas and the New Year.

Cheers, Clairabelle! xoxo

Hi Claire! I am trying to master my smart phone, but so far, it's smarter than I am.

I love Christmas songs... new, old, it doesn't matter. For some reason though, I'm not listening to many this year... not sure why.

I can't believe it's already the 20th. I'm feeling a week or two behind... of course my smart phone is not. :-P

HI Claire,

I read you every week after I read postsecret - as one would relax with the Sunday newspaper! And then I report back anything interesting to the family. Always and forever, Elaine
